GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

Prospective authors should examine recent issues and make sure their manuscripts conform as nearly as possible in style and format. First-time authors may find it helpful to have an experienced colleague review it for clarity and accuracy. Before submitting your manuscript, click on the IAPPP Style Guide (which was published as I.A.P.P.P. Communication No. 82) for more detail and elaboration. A brief summary is provided below:

1. Use Times New Roman font.

2. Provide full mailing address for each author. Include e-mail address, phone number, and fax number.

3. An abstract is not necessary but is preferred.

4. Number major sections with roman numerals, all caps, centered, not underlined. 5. Indent each paragraph five spaces.

6. Equations must be centered, numbered consecutively in the right margin, and punctuated consistent with their appearance in the text.

7. Number each figure, provide captions (which will appear below each figure), and refer to each by number in the text. Make drawings in black ink on clean white paper, with the thickness of lines and borders no thinner than 3-point in order to reproduce well. Medium contrast black and white photographs reproduce better than color. Be sure edges of drawings and photographs are set squarely on the page.

8. Send two copies of any material you would like considered for the front cover of your issue.

9. Tables must be numbered, have a heading (not a figure caption), and be cited by number in the text.

10. Reference in the text should be made by last name of author or authors and year of publication. These references should be listed alphabetically (by author last name) at the end of the paper. See recent issues or the IAPPP Style Guide for preferred journal abbreviations.

11. Figures, tables, computer program listings, etc. should be submitted on separate sheets in camera-ready form.

12. Manuscripts may be submitted on diskette, by e-mail, or in hard copy, with either of the first two preferred. Be sure and label your diskette, with your name and title of your paper. We can accept most standard formats, but prefer MicroSoft Word. If submitting a diskette or e-mail, also provide a hard copy.

13. Manuscripts will be externally reviewed only at the request of the submitting author. Authors who do so are requested to honor page charges of U.S. $10.00 per page to help defray the additional editorial expenses. Externally reviewed papers will be designated by a "reviewed" date following the usual "received" date on the title page. Individuals willing to serve as reviewers are invited to contact the Editor. See the Editorial in I.A.P.P.P. Communication No. 55, page 69 for details.

14. Send diskettes or hard copy or e-mail to the Editor Terry D. Oswalt, addresses on the back page of every issue of the Communications or on the Co-Editors page of this I.A.P.P.P. web site.
