The Richard D. Lines Award at the ISEF
Starting in 1991 with the 42nd I.S.E.F. (International Science and Engineering Fair) held in Orlando, Florida, I.A.P.P.P. has presented a Special Award in Astronomy annually at the I.S.E.F. As announced in the Editorial in issue no. 57 (September 1994) of the ommunications, this award was renamed the Richard D. Lines Special Award in Astronomy. The first award under this new name was in 1994 at the 45th I.S.E.F. held in Birmingham, Alabama.
The cash prize started off at $250.00. Beginning with the 46th I.S.E.F. in 1995, Science Service (the outfit that puts on the I.S.E.F. each year) mandated that we increase the cash prize to $500.00. The 52nd I.S.E.F. in 2001 was the first one at which the cash prize became $5,000.00, thanks to a generous grant from the N.S.F.
In addition to the cash prize, awardees are invited to submit a paper describing their award-winning exhibit, for publication in the Communications. Moreover, awardees receive a free subscription to the Communications for one year.
